Lake Gleneida is a controlled lake in Carmel, New York. It is part of New York City's water supply system, created when an original pond was dammed in 1870. There is no swimming in this lake which is the same in all of the water supply reservoirs around the area. Lake Carmel has public beaches and swimming.
