Overall it's a great arra, most likely safer than Bridgeport. Canaryville has a strong nieghborhood watch and is well polices. Especially Halsted street. It has safe schools no gangs, if so the area seems to quell them fast. You have to drive between 42 and 46th look for signs as the market steadily goes up things change.

There are some nice rehab houses on Halsted. Those won't last in 2026. Other new stone run 650 to 700k. People buying homes are professionals union workers law enforcement and fire fighters. Other are old Irish families that stick around.

Canaryville is east and north of the Back of the Yards neighborhood. Back of the Yards has a lot of gang activity and is NOT safe.

Canaryville has a little bit of crime, but it's usually nothing serious. I guess the northern end would be a little bit safer, but in general Back of the Yards isn't terribly dangerous.
