How is it to live up in Allenspark area? Are the winters really tough?

I have a friend that lives up on Allenspark and he has a great porch that we all sip beer on, but it is really cold up there and the sun sets quick with the big mountains backdropping to the west in the wintertime--it takes a certain breed to live in Allenspark
