Lost and Found

It's really cool that there is a function on Craig's to find your lost belongings all over the city. I didn't even know about that until now - but I guess that's where I would go if I ever lost anything precious on the subway. I don't think I would bother asking MTA, however - especially as their reputable employees keep ending up in the news for such lofty activities as theft.

No, but I once lost my phone on the metro in Paris. I called my own number, some guy answered. Although I was really exhasperated by his dumb French-guy questions "Do you have a boyfriend?" that kind of thing, he did agree to meet me in a public place to give me back my phone and gave me no trouble on meeting. Turns out he was a young Arab guy living in the banlieu, and had to travel quite a way to meet me. It was actually really sweet that he went to all that trouble.

If I left something on the NYC subway, I would just give up all hope of ever getting it back.

I have to say that while the Craig's list thing is cool, what are you going to do? Patrol the website all the day long? What if someone else claims your lost item before you do? I wonder just how many success stories have come from Craig's lost and found.

@Uraniumfish my biggest fear is losing my phone it like an extension of my arm. I have every intention of backing it up but never get around to doing it so I would be devastated if I lost it.

Traveling through London on my way to my college interview (coming from the airport), I left my purse, containing my wallet, all my money, my passport, my cell phone, my identification, and all vital elements at the Baker Street Tube Stop.

Someone picked it up for me and I got it back.
(And I got in...it sure got the adrenaline pumping!)

@ajadedidealis Oh lord!!! I would have died if something like that had happened to me .. traveling is so stressful nowadays that I am constantly checking to see if I have left nothing behind at the security check counter. In fact I get really nervous when there are huge crowds at security and you have to put your handbag through the machine and go in to get a body scan( don't think they do it at JFK but at other airports around the world they do).I am always wondering if someone will nick my bag while I am being scanned, I know its supposed to be high security and all that but when its rushed and there's a big crowd anything can happen.

Getting something back when you left it in a public place is one of the things that affirms my faith in humanity. Whenever it happens to me, I'm always pleasantly surprised, like, wow, sometimes people really don't suck.
