Free in NYC

This city is notoriously expensive... but not always. Check out these websites and discover a whole new world.

1. http://www.nycgo.com/free

NYCgo.com's weekly list of free activities, exhibitions and shows.
2. http://www.freeinnyc.net/category/lessons

Besides this list of free classes - which range from free yoga classes to crafty gatherings to tax and financial assistance - this website lists free walking tours, museum dates and city bargains.
3. http://newyork.craigslist.org/zip/

Craig's List listing of free stuff. New Yorkers are always giving up stuff as our space is so limited. I've scored some cool stuff from Craig's, including a free toaster oven.
4. http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/std/std2.shtml

The city's free sexual and mental heath clinic. Even the drugs are free, and everyone can use it, no questions asked. Get there early and the line isn't so bad; there's no excuse for not being tested for STIs! NYU also offers a free health clinic that is more all-encompassing, but patients have to qualify for the free health insurance first (http://www.med.nyu.edu/nycfreeclinic/).
5. http://nymag.com/urban/guides/nyonthecheap/

New York magazine's list of free stuff, discounts and bargains to be found around the city.

Thanks for the links. Are the free health clinics good for nay kind of illness, or only to get checked for VD? For people on low income, it would be nice if there were such amenities available for them.

@hhusted Treatment at the NYU clinic is completely comprehensive; the free city clinics seem to focus only on sexual and mental health care.

Wow, so much free stuff. I guess NYC isn't all about money. I will need to check out many of the free resources to learn what is free so I can see what appeals to me.
