Free Dinner @ Duane Park

Is that for real? I'd be very interested, and would certainly make a detour from my usual wine shop next time I buy wine, just to take advantage of it. If it's for real.

That sounds like an incredible deal! wonder how the economics stack up though for the restaurant ? what are they getting out of it ? free publicity to draw in future crowds?

Also, it seems that the owners of the two places are buddies: http://tastingtable.com/entry_detail/166/Go_to_Duane_Park_for_the_food_stay_for_the_burlesque.htm - the proprietor of Is Wine did the winelist at Duane Park, anyway. But I think your guess about publicity is probably the biggest reason why they would do this. I would imagine that it isn't pretty out there in the restaurant world during this recession.

@BroadwayBK yes its pretty tough out there in the hospitality world right now...though I would think the free burlesque show on Fridays would be a big enough draw....I certainly would want to go.. However I must tell you that on Valentine's eve we tried to get reservations at some of our favorite Indian places in the city(Amma, Tamarind). The husband and I wanted to entertain some folk who are constantly inviting us for parties and we had a tough time getting a reservation! We finally landed up at Dawat which is on 58th and 3rd and though it was buzzing and busy ,they could easily accommodate our group. Makes you wonder then about the recession and people not spending or maybe it was busy only because it was Valentine's eve ?

V-day is the biggest restaurant day of the year, followed by Mother's Day - maybe all of those people decided they would do Valentine's the day before to avoid the crowds? Or perhaps many of them didn't have a day off on President's Day and wanted to do the night out on a Saturday instead?

Well it seems for real enough. Let's see if the "while supplies last" works out for me since I might not make it there till next week.

Hey, anytime someone offers me a free dinner, I don't hesitate to take it. After all, how many times do you get a free dinner in NYC.

I'm often the gentleman on a date and offer to pay for dinner. I like it when a woman offers to contribute or to pay, but don't expect it. You could say that an evening out with me is a free meal! ;) (I'm not being fresh here, by the way. Just a little joke. I want to say that in advance of anyone reading this and misunderstanding.)

@DBlack in my marriage its a Valentine's Day tradition - I usually get dinner because for the rest of the year the husband always does the honors. @BroadwayBk I really don't know , I think its more of a Saturday night thing ..its been ages since I went on a Saturday night but seem to think its the toughest night to get reservations anywhere in this city. We usually tend to go out on Friday nights and chill on Saturday though we almost always do a Sunday brunch/lunch more often than not in the East Village.

I took my girl to a nice restaurant and we had good food. The main thing for us was being together. That counted the most. The dinner wasn't free for me, but it was free for her, since I paid for it.
