Extention of the no.7 line good or bad?

A new proposal seeks to extend the no.7 subway line all the way to New Jersey.

I don't know how many of you use the no.7 line but I am quite familiar with all many disruptions as its the only direct route to Flushing where the Hindu temple is located. So I wonder how extending it to New Jersey and adding even more riders is going to help?

I don't know Uptowngirl. I rarely use the line. So I'm not sure how it will impact me, but for those who use it often, those are the ones who will have to evaluate it against what system is in place now.

It seems unlikely to me that many people will be travelling all the way from Jersey to Queens and vice versa. But I do suppose the extra passengers will jam things up in Manhattan.

@BroadwayBk I think the MTA should concentrate on current projects like the long delayed Second Avenue subway rather than start pumping for new projects like the extension of the no.7 line an idea which just came about because Gov. Christie shot down the ARC tunnel project by saying NJ couldn't pay its share.

@uptowngirl Maybe they intend to run trains more frequently?

@Uraniumfish when I lived in NYC the no.7 trains seemed to be always off tracks on the weekends which was really inconvenient as it provided a direct conduit to the Hindu Temple in Queens so unless they have sorted out all the issues affecting the service I don't they should think of extending it any further.

@uptowngirl Perhaps you're right. Our next forum topic concerning the subway should be a list of all the things MTA should do with their time rather than how they actually spend it.

Why should an NYC subway go to Jersey? What a waste of public money and time.

@ajadedidealist: I agree. NJ and NY share a path train. Isn't that good enough.

Well. Maybe this has something to do with the fact that people who work in the city but can only afford to live in New Jersey might find it easier to get to work via the 7 train?

@BroadwayBK I don't think the city's motives were all that altruistic. Apparently a chunk of money had been earmarked for the ARC tunnel that Governor Christie shot down . The city thought they could get their hands on it by extending the no 7 train and justifying the use of the funds.
