Erstwhile Nightclub turned into a market

Well if new retail outlets are being planned in the city then the recession is truly behind us don't you think? One such new market is set to open in a few days in a historic church which is located in the Flatiron district. This historic church with its stained glass et al was once the site of a rocking nightclub. - Limelight .I myself have spent many a night there in the late 90's when I used to come to NYC as a tourist..I think Limelight ceased to function as a club in 2001 when it was shut down after a drug bust. Anyway this historic NYC party institution is set to reopen its doors as the Limelight Market and it has already attracted a long list of tenants.

I like that building and I would totally shop there; but, none of the shops seem all that appealing. I mean, another soap store? Really?

@JenMac Good point. The location's great for a market, but would I really rush over there for some gift soap? Probably not.

@JenMac and Uraniumfish I guess they are trying to cater to the impulsive shopper , that area where Limelight is located is perennially busy and perhaps the promoters think that uniqueness of the building itself will draw the shoppers in.. Let's wait and see what happens..

Am I the only one that thinks that it is the sneaky American way the build a retail outlet in the middle of a recession? I actually tend to shop in that area for some reason... does that make me an impulsive shopper?

@BroadwayBK that makes two us.. I do tend to go to the Bed Bath and Beyond on 18th and 6th a lot as well as the Housing Works Store on W17th street..what I meant were the crowds who gravitate to the area from Union Square and elsewhere..I dont know for some reason that stretch of 6th avenue is always busy..

Eh, I'm sick of turning everything into retail outlets. I'd rather have an interesting nightclub than another soap store anyday!
