"busy street in parts, but some quieter areas"
West 1st Street eventually leads into downtown Los Angeles and is a very busy street. However, the area I am more familar with and am discussing is the section of West 1st between Fairfax and Croft. In this area, west of downtown, it is actually a fairly quiet, nice residential neighborhood. It is still a busier road than the side streets, but it is a nice area and a good place to live, close to major streets such as Fairfax and San Vicente, conveniences, and attractions, but not too noisy and congested. It is a good neighborhood with some nice houses and apartments.

"Towering buildings and rushing traffic"
1st Street in Downtown Los Angeles is a quickly moving street! It intersects with the Harbor 110 at one end, and the cars fly by, especially during rush hour. The Walt Disney Concert Hall is on this street, as well as City Hall's beautiful fountain and landscaped area. The Metro Red line's Civic Center Station is on this street as well. It's a great street to catch the freeway from, as it intersects with the 110, the 101, the 5 and the 10, and all of those are within a 5 mile stretch!
