"Dangerous But Fun"
If you ever come to Queens, especially in Long Island City to Jamaica, you will find one stretch of highway that is considered very dangerous. This is Queens Boulevard.
Queens Blvd is known for being dangerous because so many cases of people being hit while crossing has been reported numerous times. If you can avoid the dangers of the highway, you can find a lot going on when walking the sidewalk that parallels the road. In Long Island City, the highway is covered by the subway. This is what gives it an ugly appearance. Once you get past the area where the subway travels, you will find more of an open road with many stores on a crowded road.
The only recommendation I can give is to be careful walking across the blvd.

"Fast. Car central."
Fast, a car-centric street - but there are some great mexican places and a Taco-Bell if you want Amerkinized type eats while you're traveling here. Overall, I think Queens Boulevard is underrated. People are scared of it because it's, well, scary. But there are places to ride or walk safely here, and there are good places to eat. What more can you ask for (except, well, a safer avenue.. ) ?
"Food. Mayhem."
Be careful, to us locals this is sometimes referred to as the "Boulevard of Death." Not that anything really bad happens on it, but crossing it is sometimes a mission. Regardless you'll find a world of different peoples, foods, colors, and musical tastes. Try them all. Check out Mi Tio's Steakhouse down towards 60th St. and QB - The biggest and baddest steak you will ever have in your life for under $25. Guaranteed.

"Van Dam St"
On this street, you'll find Brooklyn imports, a wonderful store in the heart of Williamsburg,Brooklyn. With great finds and an antique vive, I'm sure you'll be happy with what you find! I liked this short street, and thought that it was easily accessible. All in all, I would say that this is a great street, and should be considered when moving to the city!
