"Not much other than a railyard"

I've been to 242nd, near Broadway in the Bronx numerous times.

It is not much more than a NYC subway rail yard.........so there are tall fences with barbed wire and crime nearby. There is trash everywhere----especially broken bottles. It feels very isolated and scary. I did not feel safe in this area.

It is, however, close to a nice grocery store, the last stop on the 1 train, and a nice park (Van Cortland Park).

The park is always busy and has a golf course.

So, there are a few amenities, but despite these conveniences, I do not see any reason to travel to this street. I try to avoid this street while walking and\or running errands.

"Scary Scary Scary."

I've visited the middle portion of this street near the intersection of the bronx river parkway.

I read the riverdale press each week---and there is ALWAYS a crime report from the police on this street.

I have visited friends on this street---gunshots are common and not surprising.

The street is dirty, the buildings look unkempt, and there is no reason to visit this street unless you know someone.

The street is near nice shops though---Target is nearby and the NYC subway is a few blocks away.

"Loud Scary and Dirty."

Southeast Portion of 228th:
I lock my doors when I go down the southeast portion of this street.

The 50th Precinct crime reports frequently report on theft and violence in this area. The buildings look dirty and unkempt. There is trash everywhere. I've walked along broadway and 228th street and the individuals on this street yell obscenities and seem to be high and\or intoxicated.

The shops look dirty, rent looks cheap, but essential services are nearby. There is a grocery store, fast food places, and a nice target nearby.

Northern BLOCK of 228th:
The homes look every cute and well kept. It is like a Paradise in the middle of a warzone. I would imagine that these residents are much older, own their homes, and everything has gone downhill around them.

I would NOT recommend going to this neighborhood for anything other than a documentary on terrible living conditions\violence.

"Cute little shopping center---worth visiting just for the butcher."

This is the cutest little shopping center in the Bronx.

If you love to cook meat--then this street is worth the trip. There is a grocery store that has the friendlies employees and the best meat market\butcher in the Riverdale neighborhood. They cut meat to order and the prices were half that of their competition in Manhattan. I lived nearby and traveled to this street JUST for the butcher.

I'm not sure if this street contains residential buildings but there certainly are some nearby. The adjacent streets (Kappock, for example) gets lots of traffic from the Henry Hudson Parkway. There currently is construction and it looks very messy.

This street would not provide all of the essential services---most would need to travel to 235th street to go out in the evenings and\or to complete all necessary errands.

But, this street feels safe, is cute, the people are very friendly, and the service is unbeatable.

It is EXTREMELY close to the metro north Spuyten Duvyl train station which gets you to Grand Central station in 25 minutes or less.

"The only reason you'd go is for a great view and a metro north station"

Edsall Ave. is basically a circular road with a primary function of servicing the Spuyten Duyvil Metro North Station.

Trains heading towards Manhattan can get you to Grand Central in 25 minutes or less. It is very convenient to live NEAR Edsall Ave. but I would never want to live on this road.

The only time I visit this road is to take Metro North.

This road is pretty b/c there are many many trees---but it is isolated and desolate.

The view from the Train station is beautiful---looks over the intersection of the Harlem and Hudson rivers. Absolutely beautiful. Across the hudson the Pallisades are clearly visible. The view is the most beautiful in the fall---when the leaves are changing. The view is so pretty that you can often see artists creating oil paintings of the view on the train station platform.

Overall, this street is very handy and provides easy access\parking for metro north. The view is gorgeous, but the only reason I visit is for the train.

"Industrial feel--lots of construction. Scary feeling at night"

Kappock Ave. is in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx.

I lived nearby for 2 years and often walked down Kappock Ave.

It is residential with a small shopping area, with many trees. Graffiti is a problem from local teenagers--and being in Riverdale, car theft occurs from time to time. But overall it is safe and extremely family oriented.

Kappock Ave. is close to 235th Street and Riverdale Ave. which contain grocery stores, banks, cleaners\tailors\shoe repairmen, hardware stores, etc. Also, it is within walking distance to the NYC subway (1 train) and Metro North which goes directly to grand central. It is the ideal location for someone who wants to live in the city\have all of the city amenities but feel like you are living in a suburb with trees!

Currently there is lots of construction near the Henry Hudson Parkway--very messy, contractors everywhere, etc.

"Quiet street in a big city"

Arlington Ave. is a short and quiet street in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx.

I lived nearby for 2 years and often walked down Arlington Ave.

It is fully residential, with many trees. Graffiti is a problem from local teenagers--and being in Riverdale, car theft occurs from time to time. But overall it is safe and extremely family oriented.

One disadvantage of this street is that there are two Henry Hudson Pkway entrances\exits neaby. Arlington Ave. ends up getting a lot of traffic b/c of this.

"South end---residential, parks, etc. ok."

I've walked the south end of independence Ave. multiple times---below 236th street it is primarily residential.

There are a few parks, a school, but this street is mostly residential. Parts of this street are near shopping areas--mainly 235th.

The south end of this street is near the Spuyten Duvyl (sp?) metro north station which takes you to Grand Central Station in ~25 minutes.

The cab service in the area is excellent--Seaman's Cab Company is safe, reliable, and very popular in the area.

The homes are beautiful and appear to be single family homes. There is a famous condo building called "white hall" where Ed Sullivan lived. It contains doctors offices which are handy for residents in the area.

"Nice quiet place to live----doesn't feel like the city....but you still have all of the benefits of the city"

Oxford Ave. is a short and quiet street in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx.

I lived nearby for 2 years and often walked down Oxford Ave. en route to run errands, go to dinner, etc.

"Great place for families"

West 235th is located in a neighborhood called Riverdale in the Bronx.

West 235th provides services and entertainment to the surrounding south Riverdale neighborhood. It houses the following: grocery store, coffee shops, bakeries, cleaners, pharmacies, dry cleaners, shoe repair store, fast food, restaurants, produce stores, real estate offices, dentists, law offices, Catholic Church, art\picture frame shop, deli\convenience store, gift shop, banks, and private residences.

Compared to 110th street and 5th ave, this neighborhood is much more quiet and much closer to everything that is needed for day to day items. I can get all of my errands completed on 235th near Johnson Ave.

I feel extremely safe on this street---the employees at the stores have been there for years and there seems to be little, if any, turnover.
