"Not much other than a railyard"
I've been to 242nd, near Broadway in the Bronx numerous times.
It is not much more than a NYC subway rail yard.........so there are tall fences with barbed wire and crime nearby. There is trash everywhere----especially broken bottles. It feels very isolated and scary. I did not feel safe in this area.
It is, however, close to a nice grocery store, the last stop on the 1 train, and a nice park (Van Cortland Park).
The park is always busy and has a golf course.
So, there are a few amenities, but despite these conveniences, I do not see any reason to travel to this street. I try to avoid this street while walking and\or running errands.
