Hotels in the SF district for visitors

Hi everyone!

I wanted to know what is your opinion on the best place to stay in SF when visiting. I have stayed at the W on 3rd, and while it was impressive, I can say that it was a little 'too cool for school'...and very expensive.

I do like Le Meridien, but i do find the rooms to be a little dark, with very little lighting provided.

I'm really curious about the Four Seasons right on Market Street as well, but haven't had the pleasure of staying there.

Any suggestions?

Unless you have a business expense account forget the Four Seasons, it's the best in terms of style and service and facilities but rates start around $750 per night. Le Meridien is solid. You might also try the Clift if you are looking for a younger persons chic place to hang out. It's on Geary near Union Square. http://www.clifthotel.com/

This is a little bit of an old topic but I think its kind of timeless. Probably the best bet when it comes to accomadations in the city is to go over the Bay Bridge and get a cheaper hotel a litle ways off, like in Emeryville or Pinole. Then you just drive in. Or even better take the BART.

Maybe we should expand this topic a little bit as well. What is your favorite hotel in SF?

I need some hotel leads as well for a high-end corporate client (small group). We're definitely looking for four-star or better, but are open to anywhere in the Bay Area (SF, Silicon Valley, Sonoma, East Bay, Napa). The requirements? Ultra high-end, with proximity to some great outdoor activities. Any and all thoughts are welcome.
