StreetAdvisor - your street, your voice

I should preface this by saying that Hanover Street, in spite of its flaws, is a ton of fun and boasts most of the best food in Boston. No one should visit Boston and not stroll down Hanover-it is the center of Little Italy and, in many ways, the real heart of Boston. Keep a few things in mind before you go, though: first, don't drive. Public transit is a short walk away, but walking down Hanover means you are going faster than most of the cars. This is a busy street to drive down, and on a weekend night, even a busy street to walk down. It's crowded, a little noisy, and not the cleanest street around. But it has a lot of heart, and boy is the food incredible...

Hanover Street is located in Little Italy. This section of Boston is very charming and fulling:) The people are somewhat inclusive and don't take well to "tourists". Having just visited there in the summers, I didn't feel a part of the neighborhood. But then again, that just may be the Northeast in general. This area of Boston is somewhat congested, in terms of traffic, and would not be considered the quietest street in the neighborhood - however, it is conveniently near to major highways.

The northern end is the italian section, but generally Hanover street is a melting pot of cultures in the US. There is a mixure of different nationalities of people living together peacefully on the street, and then there are also the tourists that frequent this street. In general the traffic is good, and so is the food. There are many many different places to eat here. I was mostly on the northern end though, but my general feeling of the whole road was good. It felt like there was a lot of positive interactions between people, and people enjoying themselves here. This is a clean and friendly area, where many different kinds of people have learned to live together happily. This is definately a place i would recommend to someone who is visiting.

I must say it is indeed one of the best street in Boston,Mainly consisting of people from other countries,Tourists as well as people living there,Italians,French etc were there.A beautiful place probably the core of the north side of Boston,A must visit if you have plans to go there and also if you have plans of settling somewhere then this is one of the best place to be with beautiful scenery around.

Hanover Street is the heart of the North End in Boston. For those not familiar with the area, the North End is Boston's predominately Italian section.

Their is a distinct feeling of community on Hanover Street. Although it is easy to tell the local residents and business people apart from the visitors, there is not a feeling of separation between the two. Local residents can often be found in folding chairs out watching the happenings of the neighborhood and saying 'hello' to passerbys. For a real sense of neighborhood, check this street out during one of its' festivals- what a great time!

My favorite part of Hanover Street is the great cafes, restaurants and shops. Although it is, perhaps, too famous, Mike's Pastry really does offer a great selection and has the best ricotta filled canolli around. I will make trips back to Boston just for their canolli; they are just that good!

If you travel into Boston, make sure you get to Hanover Street. It can be congested if you are driving, but there are plenty of parking lots and garages in quick walking distance. It is absolutely worth the trip!
