"Typical Jersey City street"
This is a typical Jersey city street. A bit of dirt and grime smeared on a base of solid housing stock. It is a nice enough street to live if you want both affordability and proximity to the city. Most inhabitants are recent immigrants and have the immigrant work ethic. Some will smile at you and be excessively friendly, while others will be curiously inscrutable.
Manhattan's other distinguishing quality is that it allows you access to route 1-9 (tonnelle avenue) from the Journal Square area. Route 1-9 is the main artery running through Hudson County from lower Jersey City up to cliffside park, Ridgefield, etc. A lot of motels and car repair yards run along this road.
