Boulder is a vibrant atmosphere for entrepreneurial, intellectual types. People move here to live the good life of having clean air, clean water and an assortment of outdoor opportunities right out your doorstep. Over the years, streets buildings, etc have become very manicured. It is really easy living here.

HeatherS I have lived in Boulder for 19 years now, ever since moving here from the midwest to attend CU. The manicured streets are not really a good thing to be honest because you either have these polished homes and lofts that go for a million plus or run down, even dirty apartments that still go for $1300 plus for a one bedroom. There are still the beautiful authentic neighborhoods in Boulder but the cost of real estate is unattainable for most. The living costs in town in general are inhibitive and the traffic is congested. It is true that the roads are so full of traffic and stops that you can get around faster on a bike than a car. For the rich Boulder is a haven of illusion but to be honest... for the middle class or below, Boulder is a daily challenge of temptation and fluff. I truly love Boulder but it is becoming more and more plastic and losing its laid back open feeling. This is a special place that is losing ground to commercialism. I am not the only local who feels this way. For example, this comment comes from a conversation I had with my 16 year old daughter who was observing how she has noticed that Boulder has changed even in her lifetime, she was born and raised here. Thanks for reading and my apologies if I offended anyone.

Boulder seems to attract a lot of like minded individuals. Folks that choose to live in Boulder enjoy the convenience of being close to the mountains, with tons of outdoor options and trails. Because of this general appreciation of the outdoors, the atmosphere feels a bit more laid back and relaxed than Denver. Walking around in workout gear is not uncommon, biking to work or school or the grocery store is fairly typical. Alfalfa's in downtown Boulder just had to add 4 more bike racks out front, and has stated that it still isn't enough.

Boulder is the city of diversity. But, I wouldn't say people are weird. Many value education, the arts, and individuality. On Pearl Street you will find many people with quaint talents and some exhibitionists. But, it is a very progressive city that has a lively, entertaining atmosphere with a reverence for the environment.

to KristinB: One thing stands out about people in Boulder --- they are very healthy! Lots of athletes, and lots of alternative health practitioners, and lots of healthy food!

Easy going, casual dress, freethinking, home of the start-up company with many oppurtunities. The history of multible universities help keep the vibe young and avant garde. Being in the shadows of the mountains get the outdoorsy thing going as well. Stay Awhile, Play Awhile use to be our motto

There is something for everyone in Boulder and it is absolutely impossible to ever be bored. I find that people are really active, friendly and outdoorsy. It is a very liberal town and people are open-minded, intellectual and accepting. Pretty ideal place really.

I agree with Heather, it is definitely a place to visit if nothing else. Located where it is lends to the beauty, but there are some interesting characters there. Overall though, it's a laid back atmosphere with great shops and a tons of stuff to do. There is some great hiking at Chatauqua park just south of the main CU campus. It's a really pretty place to be.

HeatherS Chatauqua is a great spot, plus there is a great restaurant there with a wrap around porch that you can sit out on year round, the food is good, the atmosphere great and the price is not that bad. Chatauqua has live music especially classical and jazz shows here is a link for Chautauqua Events.

Boulder is busy but also relaxed. There are a lot of what many call "wierdos" in town and if you walk or even drive around you will see what I mean. But it is NOT boring, the overall atmosphere is lively, interesting and modern.
