"The definition of suburbia - but quiet at night"
Want to be an urban pioneer? Move out to BMR/Del Sur. Some services are starting to come to the area - mostly in 4S Ranch at the moment. Plenty of trails and hiking along with HOA parks and young families with 2 cars in the garage and a nice expensive home. I lived here for a year and liked it but if you are social it is at least 30 mins via freeways to San Diego nightlife and about 1 1/2 hours to LA nightlife.
Quiet and clear skies at night with coyotes howling off in the distance. Because it is so far inland it can be quite warm in the summers. Overall a nice peaceful neighborhood mostly good for families.
Schools are in Poway district and not San Diego Unified which is a good thing. Poway is one of the better school districts in the area. Closest public transport is in Carmel Valley to the SE or in 4S ranch to the east. You are about 15-20 minutes from a freeway - either SR 56 or I-15. The nearest public gym is LA Fitness in 4S Ranch.

Cons
- Shopping/Services still in development
- Distance to downtown San Diego or LA can be a factor
- You definitely need a car if you want to do more than hike or go to the park. Transit is limited.
