Portsmouth Square park is a one block park in the center of Chinatown. The park is due west from the Kearny Street parking garage. Chinatown is the most densly populated area of San Francisco. Given the fact that San Francisco apartments are small most people need to get out so they don't get cabin fever. In Chinatown they go to Portsmouth Square. Whether there is a event or just a need to strech the legs the high poulation density makes this a great place to people watch. This park is so lively and full of unusal sights and sounds even young children will enjoy a trip to Portsmouth Square.

I agree - in crowded cities where apartments are smaller you definitely need public space nearby to relax in!
