"A work in progress"

The Rolling Mill Hill project was conceived before the economy tanked. (The market feasibility study was done in 2003, if that tells you anything.) Plans started changing from condo sales to apartment rentals last year after some of the stakeholders ran into some financial trouble.

But Metro Development and Housing, who started the ball rolling on it all, keeps adapting to the times as needed, and things keep moving forward in this area. The Nance Place low-income apartments, for example, are still on track for completion.

And while there are still a lot of construction-ugly places on Rolling Mill Hill, plans still call for the area to be a green addition to the city. The Rolling Hills Greenway is still in the works, and Nance Place is expected to be Gold Certified by the U. S. Green Building Council.

The best news, though, may be the non-news—the Hill itself didn’t flood during our unexpected disaster back in May.There was some flood damage up in the corner of the greater Rolling Mill area, between the railroad tracks and the Cumberland River, but that’s a privately held area that’s not part of the development project. Those new apartments ought to be safe from future similar disasters.

MTA’s bus #6 runs past Rolling Mills Hill, as does the #44, the shuttle to the MTA offices.

"Close to downtown and affordable."

Located near Rutledge Hill and Lafayette Street, the area of Rolling Mill is quite affordable. Not only are the apartments affordable but so are the homes that are for sale. The area is nice and is offers a nice area for you to raise a family in. The Nashville Metro school system offers a number of schools in the area that you can send your children to in which they can recieve a good education from.

There are a number of small parks in the area that you can visit during the day when looking for a place to take the children as well as a place to take your dog when looking for a place to let the dog run. The area is not to far away from Downtown Nashville which makes it a ideal area to live in. The area is along one of the bus routes that will take you into downtown Nashville which you can catch a number of other buses to other areas of Nashville when you need to.

The Lafayette area is a busy area for those residents who live in the outskirts of Nashville to travel to when traveling to and from work on a daily basis. The area stays pretty busy with residents traveling either to work or to one of the local businesses in downtown. There are a number of small convienant stores as well as gas stations for you to visit when looking for a late night snack as well as needing gas to get into town.

Overall, the area is not bad and the homes are quite affordable for a large city such as Nashville.

"Great things to come"

Rolling Hill Mill is an up and coming area near Rutledge Hill and the Lafayette areas. What once were the Trolley barns and General Hospital (commercial use) is now the mixed use (residential/retail) Rolling Hill Mill.

There are not only affordable apartments there, but also condo developments. There are a number of buildings that have been renovated for this purpose. They are all high tech and modern, with the latest appointments. Very exciting indeed.

It is very close to downtown and all the eateries there. Also close is 3rd and Lindsley, and The Cannery, both of which have superb live music.
