"I want a yard this size!"

The actual McKissack Park for which this area is named is a small open area on Torbett Street. It has a picnic table or two—no shelter—a basketball court, and a children’s play area.

Some of the houses in this neighborhood are on some truly spacious lots, with an abundance of trees in places. It’s a hilly area, though, and some of the driveways run down the slope of a hill to the street. The ones I saw weren’t steep by Nashville standards, but still could be an issue if you’re not used to that sort of thing.

With the interstate and the railroad tracks bordering this area, I'm not sure about the noise factor here. I know that some of the tracks around here are still used, so you might want to investigate further if you're looking at moving to the McKissack Park area.

MTA’s bus #10 runs up and down Charlotte Road, along the southern edge of the McKissack Park neighborhood. The #10 is one of the most frequent MTA buses.

"West Nashville Neighborhood"

Located in the Western portion of Nashville, the McKissack Park area is more busy with residents of Nashville who are taking their lunch breaks rather than with residents living in the area. The area of Nashville that McKissack Park is located in is Clifton Ave, Charlotte Ave and I-440. The area also includes 28th Ave North.

Many of the homes in the area are smaller homes in the lower price range. Many of the residents who live in the area are in the lower income bracket. There is a bus route along the way and many different businesses to choose from when looking to find a job if you are new to the area.

Located in the area is the Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn. The Comfort Inn is not to far away on Charlotte Ave and White Bridge Road. There is a new shopping plaza not to far from the Charlotte Avenue and White Bridge Road intersection that houses Target, Cosco, Petsmart and more. The local bowling alley offers you a night full of entertainment with other activities than just bowling. The Strike and Spare will offer your children a play area with bumper cars and laser tag.

If you are in need of renting a car, the local Enterprise Rent a Car is not to far away as well. If you are looking for a nice place to sit and eat, check out the local Fat Mo’s which offers outside parking and a bench that will allow you to eat outside of your vehicle. There is a Shoneys in the area and many of the other local fast food restaurants.

"Interesting area"

McKissack Park is bounded by Charlotte Ave., I-440, and Clifton Avenue. It is only 0.160 square miles, with a population of 493 people. So a metropolis, it is not.

It is a lower income neighborhood with a median income of $18,918--more than half of the people are below the poverty level. The average rent is $400,and housing prices average $94,231.

Restaurants nearby are Swett's, Stitch Perfect, Bro's Cajun Cuisine, and my favorite, Cafe Unique. Cool jazz there.

Of course, you are also not too far from Vanderbilt and West End, with all the fun restaurants and events. You can easily go to Centennial Park, where you can learn to swing dance, go to Shakespeare in the Park, or attend a massive pillow fight.
