"Nicer part of the nearby neighborhood"

This street is a continuation of South Wayne Street. This is definitely a nicer section of the street by far. Occupied mainly by retirees or older couples, this quiet street features well-kept houses and trim lawns bordered by hardy shrubs and bushes. Convenient to local schools, shopping, and restaurants, this is definitely one of the nicer places in Van Wert.

"Quiet little neighborhood in a very small town."

The houses are nice, the people are friendly, and the street is small. So is the town. Not much in the way of nightlife or eating out, but a wonderful place to raise your children without fearing for their safety every minute of the day. It really depends on what you are looking for, but if you are looking for a great place to raise your children, and not too worried about getting DSL or good cell phone reception, this is a great place. Houses are moderately priced as well.

"Fairly nice neighborhood for the most part"

My friend has lived here for years and loves it. Most of the street is very nice except for one trailer park that is located near her house. This used to be a fairly rough place; the police visited regularly, but she said it has been cleaned up a lot. Occasionally, drivers mistake this road for a raceway, which can be quite annoying as well.

"Family and Community Spirit"

Some of my friends live here, and they seem to have a fairly good relationship with most of their neighbors. The street is quiet yet fairly close to some decent restaurants and a little shopping. Not very much traffic. Although the street is fairly close to the airport, very few planes fly in or out of the municipal airport, so it really isn't a big deal.

"Fairly nice neighborhood"

This street is home to Lima Memorial Hospital. Located close to the major Interstate 75, it is also very close to an excellent assortment of restaurants and several hotels as well. The street seemed a little rough, and I don't know how friendly the residents are, but overall I received a positive impression of the street during the years I worked there.

"The neighborhood is bordering on ok"

This street is still fairly quiet, but many of the people who live here are a little rough around the edges. Safe enough to allow your children to play outdoors, if you don't mind endangering them by the traffic that sometimes decides to hurtle past. The houses are old and in need of repair; the neighborhood used to be nice, but is in decline.

"Quiet, deadend street"

This street is so tiny that it only has about 6 homes on it. The people were friendly and nice when I lived there, and the street was located fairly close to Walmart and other local shopping. There were a couple of restaurants located nearby, and it was a nice little place to live. It was located rather too close to a couple of manufacturing industries for people with respiratory problems. Warning: this is a private street; the city makes no effort to plow it or make any kind of repairs along it.

"Quality of life depends on whether you are north or south of 24"

On one side of 24, the road heads toward the high school and junior high and elementary. Houses are overpriced, and many of the people think much more highly of themselves than they need. On the other side, however, there is quiet semi-country living very near a major city. The air is still clean and the people are still friendly. Quiet, less trafficky but still very convenient.

"Peaceful country living convenient to town"

It was one of the best places I ever lived. Although the farm was about 10 miles out of town and seemed distant from all civilization, it was actually easy and quick to get back to town and get what you needed. The clean air and comfort of having friendly neighbors just can't be beat - and the traffic was fairly mild for the most part. I would highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys peace and quiet.

"Haven for local drunks"

Very blue collar neighborhood, which in and of itself isn't a bad thing, but many of the people who lived here failed to pay their rent -or anything else. The houses are dilapidated and many of the people look like their houses. Most of the people who lived here had serious problems with drugs and alcohol; this was usually a good place to purchase something illicit if you wanted to.

"Ok for singles"

This place is very close to the downtown and very convenient for those who enjoy dive bars and seedy nightlife. Several blocks north of where I lived, the street was ok and fairly close to the high school. That area was nice, but the area near the downtown really wasn't. The traffic could be heavy, and most of the people living in the area were singles.

"Great living if you like trains"

The neighborhood is fairly quiet most of the time - except for the trains that pass through at all hours of the day and night. In fact, sometimes it gets so noisy that you cannot even shout loud enough to be heard for the train rolling through. The people are ok, but the pollution from the factories nearby makes it a lousy place for anyone with respiratory problems or who wants to raise children.

"Perfect small town location"

Hamilton is a short street in this small town. Perfect for raising children, the neighborhood is quiet and clean. The residents are friendly but not nosy, and willing to help each other. There are plenty of trees and grass and very little pollution or traffic. I would highly recommend this area to anyone who enjoyed small town living and wanted to raise a family in a safe place.

"Way too much traffic and pollution for a small town"

We lived right across from a sawmill, and only blocks from four major manufacturing plants. The air was foul, the people were very blue collar, and the house was very near a train track. The train usually went by about 2 am. I grew up here, wasn't sorry to leave it, and would never voluntarily move back to it. Not the happiest memories of my life by any means!

"Great place to raise children"

This street was quiet and comfortable to live on. Close to the local school and nice younger families with children. Retirees and a couple of singles as well. Short street, very neighborly, and we enjoyed living there very much. Our lives changed, or we probably wouldn't have sold the house or moved. It was a good place to live. I don't regret the time spent there. Good memories.

"Row upon row of apartment buildings"

There are four apartment complexes on a relatively short street. The complexes progressively go from bad to worse as you head down the parkway. The one at the end is called Kensington Manor, and it is a major dump. I would never encourage anyone to move into these complexes. The upkeep is terrible - the maintenance is prohibitive - the manager was revolting when I lived there. Save your money for a better neighborhood!

"Great for locals who think they are really something"

This street consists of way overpriced houses. The people who live in them think they are the social foundation and bedrock of Van Wert. Well, that in itself doesn't speak highly of them. With current trends in the real estate market, I am guessing housing prices here are going to drop fairly rapidly as all the people who cannot really afford to live here face the interest rate crisis. If you really want to live on this street, you shouldn't have much trouble locating a foreclosure soon. But the personalities of the street's residents just make this place not desirable.

"Used to be a nice neighborhood"

This used to be a nice, quiet neighborhood mainly occupied by retirees and families with children. The neighborhood progressively grew more blue collar, and on a quiet night, you can sometimes here drunken fights. The road is paved well enough, but the neighborhood is quickly going downhill and houses lose their value. I wouldn't recommend buying here anymore.

"Excellent if you can afford it"

The neighborhood is quiet and nice. The homes are nice. The housing and accommodations, as well as the retail services, are seriously overpriced. The school area is great, but unless you are an executive or make a lot of money, it can a financial struggle to maintain a decent standard of living here.

CommunityMan Hi jaimesgirl,

Why are prices so expensive? Is it inflation and the slowing economy, state taxes, or something else?

"Quickest route from downtown to University Circle"

The title says it all. Some people treat Chester Avenue as though it is a raceway. There are a few cameras to catch unwary speeders, but most people know where they are and just slow down there. This street is home to the Cleveland Clinic, and you can take it almost all the way downtown to Public Square and some phenomenal shopping too. Nice to visit, but dangerous to cross on foot.

"College living in the inner city"

Euclid Avenue is the street along which University Hospital and Case Western Reserve University are located. Further east, it becomes the heart of the inner city. Parts of the street are really rough and parts are very collegiate. The 115 blocks between downtown and the University offer a wide range of lifestyles. Interesting to visit, but I don't think I would want to live here.
