Thrift and consignment shops

are there any you would recommed in the downtown neighborhoods like...Uptown, Lincoln Park, etc. We plan to use the subway system as well. I love Gap, Banana Republic, American Eagle, Ralph Lauren, hip and unique clothing, silver jewelry, reasonably priced "hidden treasures"...I will be in the Chicago area and this is one of many areas I hope to visit...thanks for any help (I will be there in May of 2013)

Uptown is very nice for the types of stores you're looking for, and if you go a bit south to Wrigleyville you'll also find some quality options. Lincoln Park has a few options, though I think it'll be better for the hip stuff from more expensive retailers like Ralph Lauren than cool, unique shops that can only be found in Chicago. I'd also recommend, since you're using the Metra system, that you check out areas like Humboldt Park, Logan Square and Wicker Park for more cool places to shop in Chicago!
