What are the best places to live in the San Francisco/Bay Area for families?

I think the best places for families are up north in Marin County and east in places like the Lamorinda area and Dublin. They are somewhat boring and suburban but have really good schools and good neighborhoods. If you can afford them, that is the place to go. The city is just too crazy and with too many ways kids can get into trouble. Piedmont in the East Bay is great too.
