Safety on School Trips

I don't know if anyone heard today, but a school girl drowned in Long Beach. She was on a field trip.

This brings up an interesting question. Who is responsible for the child while on a field trip?

Wouldn't it be the teacher or coordinator of the trip?

Take a look at this and give me your thoughts:

This is indeed tragic, and yes, I believe the teachers/coordinators are meant to act in loco parentis. That said, tragedies do happen, nand we shouldn't be too quick to rush to bla,e anybody just yet

Aren't there lifeguards out there?

As a parent, I sometimes have to fight the impulse to lock the kid up in a little cubby hole just to make sure she's extra safe and protected from the world.

@JenMac: Lifeguards are there, but they can't see everyone. At the time of the drowning, the article does not say whether the lifeguard was on duty.
