Promenade extends to Williamsburg Bridge

I know I am late finding this out - the newest section of the East River promenade opened on July 4 - but I'm excited to hear that the promenade now extends to the Williamsburg Bridge. Has anyone checked it out yet?

Wow, @hhusted. Really? One of my favorite views of the city is from the promenade in DUMBO. So classic.

Oh, hey, I was actually there on the 4th of July for a rooftop party in DUMBO, and afterwards in the evening we were walking on the promenade. But I didn't realize it had just opened that day!

@Uraniumfish It's sad that they have the fireworks on the Jersey side of Manhattan nowadays. What's up with that? The view would be amazing from the promenade if they had the fireworks display in the East River like they used to...

@BroadwayBK Though there were a good amount of people that day on the promenade, and the usual line at Grimaldi's, I'm actually glad there weren't huge crowds for the fireworks. It was such a great evening but would have been spoiled if there were many more people around.

I was actually at the promenade again today. Tons of Russians for some reason. And a whole bunch of women in wedding dresses! Quite the spot for the wedding photography.

That sounds gorgeous! I'm so glad. I used to try to do a cycle loop down West Side Highway through Battery Park and up the East River...but alas there was always that bit closed off that meant I had to go through traffic. Now I can cycle more easily!

I love that area but wouldn't want it to get so touristy that you can't enjoy it on the weekends. The view's amazing!

@DBlack I don't think Brooklyn is in danger of becoming THAT touristy, though in a few years Williamsburg will probably be the new B&T destination of choice. @Uraniumfish The promenade is definitely a choice spot for photos - but I wonder where you would actually get married before traipsing over there in your wedding finery?

@BroadwayBK Not sure. I wondered that myself, and didn't see any place that might fit a.s the place for the ceremony. But then again I think most couples don't get their wedding photos done on the same day that they marry, so I think they were in their wedding finery only for the purposes of the photo shoot.

@Uraniumfish really? wasn't aware of that .. thought people always used the photos from the actual wedding ceremony isnt that why they go to such lengths to find a good photographer for the wedding?

@uptowngirl I always see people in the park wandering around in their wedding finery for the purpose of photos - but they probably just got married in the nearby boathouse. That's why I was wondering if there was a place nearby the promenade where people actually did the nuptial deed.

@uptowngirl, BroadwayBK Well there's two kinds of photos: the one kind documents the actual wedding, with the guests and the setting and so on, and the other kinds are "studio" portraits with the couple. My parents had the "studio" photos done separately on a different day. Just imagined that's what those couples were doing. They all looked too blase for that to be their wedding day. I would be extra hyperactive on my wedding day and hardly able to concentrate on whether my mascara was perfect or not.

@Uraniumfish thanks for the explanation and we look forward to your wedding day :)

@Uraniumfish Oh - doing it on a different day! I've actually never heard of anyone doing that. But then your future husband will see you in your wedding dress before the wedding! I guess it would be much more practical to do it that way - not to mention you get to have more fun and do less portrait taking on your actual wedding day.
