Possible Vendor Shutdown

I was getting fruit at a vendor yesterday and overheard him say that Bloomberg is thinking about shutting down all the street vendors in the city. His excuse was that too many of them sell counterfeit goods.

Did anyone here about this. It would be a shame to shut down the fruit vendors. I get my fruit from them most of the time.

I noticed no one has commented on this one yet. What I mentioned in the post is a serious issue. If we lose the vendors, especially the fruit vendors, we won't be able to get fresh fruit as quickly.

@hhusted I totally depend on my local fruit vendor for my supply of luscious peaches, strawberries, oranges and vine tomatoes which cost much more in the local groceries. However I think Bloomberg is planning to crack down on the art vendors in Union Square and elsewhere not the fruit vendors who are all licensed i think. http://www.examiner.com/x-23890-NY-Destinations-Examiner~y2010m4d22-Protest-art-AntiBloomberg-posters-decorate-Union-Square-Park-photos http://www.artdaily.org/index.asp?int_sec=2&int_new=37510

I was just at Unions Square today, enjoying the madness of the place and the sunshine. I have to say I don't really care/ mind that vendors are there. NOT that I'd buy any of that crap, but it adds to the flavor, you know? It would be annoying if there were vendors everywhere in the city, but I don't mind if there are certain spots full of them.

Although after the street vendors Saved The Day in Times Square, perhaps Bloomberg is going to be forced to eat his words?
