I have the worst timing in the city.

That whole little fiasco really got under my skin.. I love taking detours. :/

I really hope this wasn't done on purpose before of the last car threat. This is getting crazy. NYC being such a big target is really starting to freak me out. I just got here and I really don't want to move but things can just get so crazy sometimes.

This just makes me think.. I don't have to just worry about the threat.. but now tiny situations like these?

Do you guys think it will maybe get better or worse as time goes on? This was pretty frustrating to say the least.. I'm not sure if NYC is a good place to start my family if these things keep happening.

Why did you move here to begin with. I would have thought twice once I heard about 9/11. The terrorist are always going to target NYC because to them, NYC represents America, considering this is the place where the heart of the financial district is located. You damage NYC and you take out down the economy.

@andthegreat I think the situation of the abandoned truck is just NYC getting jumpy after the whole Times Square issue.. yes things do get crazy in NYC at times but I have lived in other cities in the world during and after terrorist attacks -London in July 2007 and Mumbai in November 2008 and the situation is always the same.. the city is incredibly nervous a few days after the attacks and then its business as usual.. so I think this too shall pass..

I think the real danger is fairly minimal. Yes, NYC is an obvious target, but there are not bombs going off every other day like in places in the middle east...And the guy who tried to leave that truck in Times Square just sounded like a lone, frustrated individual who went over the edge. When you think about it, frustrated individuals who go over the edge can do crazy things anywhere, that's not specific to NY by any means.

I'd say you just start your family and don't worry too much. If you lived in rural Iowa, you'd still have no guaranteed that some guy might go crazy one day and start shooting in a public place. Know what I mean?

Yeah, it's good to keep things in perspective. Despite our occasional fears, we are very lucky to be living in a place like NYC.

Considering the amount of bodies per SQUARE FOOT in this city, the actual number of casualties is not that bad, considering. I think this is still a pretty great city, and by the way, a city that has its finger on the pulse of world events like no other US city...

@DBlack So true! Not that I don't understand a little nervousness on the part of New Yorkers, but our city is much, much safer than many parts of the world.

@NeverSleeps Yeah, I'm almost surprised there isn't more bad stuff going on in this city (knock on wood!) since it really is a dense place, and such an obvious center point. I'm really happy I live here. Over the years I've gone off to other parts of the world, but this is always where I come back to...

There was another scare outside the Natural History Museum. Who was dumb enough to leave a car with the engine running outside a major city landmark?

@ajadedidealist I didn't hear about that... I can't believe anyone would leave their car running anywhere in the city, though...

Some people are just dumb, I guess. Or they want to pull a prank

I NEVER leave my keys in my car, much less leave then in the ignition with the thing still running! That is beyond a dumb move. Where do these people think they are?
