Food Truck Vendors May Lose Licenses

I read on NY1 today that the city of NY is planning to cancel the license of any vendor who has at least three or four parking violations in the last year. They are considering a bill for the purpose of doing this because they claim it will free up parking space for cars that need it.

Here is the complete story:

I think the bill is ridiculous. Trying to free up more space for the possible person of giving cars more parking space. Like this city has enough cars as it is. If I were mayor, I would ban cars in this city.

I would hate to see those vendors go. I buy from them sometimes.

@hhsuted what of all those gourmet food trucks which are all the rage nowadays? I would had if my fruit vendor would be affected , he has a vending cart as well as a truck parked behind it where he keeps more supplies and fresh fruit.

@Uptowngirl: I think it is a ploy. For some reason this city is doing it for a reason. Maybe their politician friends don't like vendors. Or maybe they have friends who want to come to the city but can't find parking space. I don't know. I am just guessing. But whatever it is, I think the city government should mind their own business and do what they do best.

I'm sorry to hear this! I think food trucks are an important part of New York City's culture - where else do you find the cultural and culinary variety and richness of NYC?

@ajadedidealist well said and I agree with hhusted may be there are other forces at play as well..maybe a big chain wants entry into the city and hence.doesnt mind putting a few small vendors out of business.

I think perhaps we should get a petition going, or storm City Hall and complain that the government is going too far with these street vendors. What do you think?
