Emergency Doors

I thought there was a law in place that emergency door use was illegal unless it was strictly an emergency. At the stop I listed above, most of the people who use the doors are lazy. They don't want to take the extra steps to go through the turnstiles first.

Sometimes people have too much crap with them to go through the turnstiles?

I like when one person legitimately uses it and then everyone else just continues to use it.

@hhusted I see the emergency doors being used by mum's who are pushing strollers or those you are traveling on the subway with luggage. Sometimes when I am weighed down with my TJ's bags I am sorely tempted to use the doors but havent done so until yet.

I am one of those people that uses the emergency door after one person uses it - you just have to be careful not to set the alarm off. Those people who set the alarm off are the worst.

@BroadwayBK doesnt the alarm go off every time the emergency door is opened?certainly seems that way..

If you avoid hitting the bar that goes across the door it doesn't go off. Like if the attendant buzzes it open for you and you open it without hitting that bar, there is no alarm. Hit that bar and it's all over. At least that's always been my understanding.

So there's no one watching if the door is opened? That happened the other day, a woman walked through the door, the alarm went off, and the door stayed open a good long while. There was ample opportunity to just walk through, but I didn't because I thought, if some attendant starts yelling now, this isn't the day I want to deal with a scene.

Heh, good point, @uraniumfish. I've actually never seen it happen - I always just use the turnstiles....

I've never seen anyone get in trouble for doing that... I wonder if anyone really cares?

@Uraniumfish same here I always use the turnstiles for that very reason.. . doesnt the door open with the swipe of your MetroCard and do you have to inform the attendant every time that you need to use it?
