City Libraries to Lose Their Jobs

Not that this city is in danger of going under financially, now Bloomberg is cutting $74 million dollars from the city library budget. This will mean up to 1400 library employees will lose their jobs.

If Bloomberg can't come up with a decent budget by July 1st, this city may end up closing down. Let's hope that does not happen.

How unfortunate! Public libraries are some of the best community centres out there! I'm so disappointed to hear this news

I saw this when I was on the Brooklyn library website ! A lot of the branches are being forced to close, which is really unfortunate... They are doing so much to keep the parks and historic sites open; it's too bad they can't find money to funnel into the library system!

Politicians need to get it together and cut it out with this nonsense: you don't fire librarians and close down libraries if you want a halfway decent and vital city.

@Uraniumfish: Unfortunately, politicians don't care about anything but the bottom line: Their pocketbook or wallet. Whatever they can do to put more money into it, that is what will make them happy.

You can tell the NYPL is desperate because they've been spamming me with all kinds of email requests to fill out questionnaires that will prove how many people use the library and how much. Guess it was their desperate measure to stay afloat.

@Uraniumfish For real! What kind of a city doesn't have a decent library system? And yeah... if you go to their website, they make no bones about begging for money.
