$1000 Frittata at Normas

You forgot to mention that they call it "The Zillion Dollar Lobster Frittata" ...and they also have a "regular" sized one for $100. The $1,000 portion is apparently "super size," which seems really tacky. Think I'll have to pass, but what else is good there!

That is just tacky. Caviar is nice, sure, but for $1000 I'd rather go to Paris and have a picnic of chicken and vegetables by the Seine from the local takeaway.... (mmm....roast chicken from Rue de Buci - some of the best food of all time...)

I can think of a million better things to do with $1,000... but then, I'm sure so could everyone who doesn't have $1,000 to spend on a frittata.

Nobody should have a grand to spend on one breakfast item. It's, admittedly, ridiculous. But, the other food there is really amazing. We ordered a bunch of things to share and everything was delicious.

One grand for any kind of food that lasts for a few minutes is really dumb. Why not use the money to stock up on can goods or other food items that can last for a while. That would make a lot more sense to me, than all that money on one meal. Get real.

I was reading about someone the other day who apparently spent $200,000 on a wedding. What an insane amount of money! I know weddings can be expensive, but you have to be seriously *trying* to spend that amount of money...

I used to work at a place where people would spend 50 - 100k in one night on booze.

@Everybody: I can't believe that people would go into debt just for a wedding or for drinking. That's stupid in my book. I don't know what anyone else thinks about it, but why spend that much money on a wedding when the party may end up divorced in a couple of years any way. And if they do not divorce, the couple will have a huge debt on their hands to start their lives together. This is something they really didn't need.

That kind of money doesn't put these people into debt. They have that kind of disposable income. It's nothing to them.

I sincerely hope that no one has ever bought that ridiculous frittata who didn't have plenty of money to toss in the garbage. And don't people usually break even when it comes to weddings? As in, the more guests you invite the more money you get as gifts?

I am more practical. Even if I had billions of dollars to spend, I would not use it for high cost food items. I would buy a nice cottage somewhere in the Pacific where it is always warm, buy a Lamborghini, and be debt free.

@hhusted same here I would invest my millions in real estate in some of my favorite cities in the world and then I would spend the rest of the money traveling .. aha if wishes were horses as my mum says beggars would ride...

Never tried the 25,000 haute chocolate, for obvious reasons, but Serendipity is a must! It is so worth the hype. I ate myself into a coma my first time there.

Man.... I could really go for a haute chocolate right now. Where are all the rich single boys when I need them?

My girlfriend dressed up like Marilyn Monroe at Serendipity a few short years ago. She told me it was located at 60th between 2nd and 3rd. She also told me the place sold everything from the 50's including milk shakes, burgers, etc. That is my kind of place to go. The downside is it can be expensive. My favorite place to go that has a 50's theme is Johnny Rocket. I love their burgers.

@hhusted more than the expense , you will have to wait in line for hours. Serendipity is now a major tourist hangout and is forever overrun with the hordes.

I went a year ago and we only waited 10 minutes! Maybe because it was an off time but nevertheless . . . .

Serendipity sounds fun, although you can get a nice burger and milkshake for much less money at nearly any Diner in the USA.
