We are about to come and visit Chicago soon, and I was wondering of people would let me know about "The Loop"! A few friends have told me not to go south of the loop because it is quite dangerous.

Any truth to this?

It's fine, just depends how far south you go. Chicago get's such a bad wrap these days, some parts of the city are known for their homeless and drug problems. I would say dont go too far south of the loop, once you get to Chinatown unless you know what you are doing I would not go alone or too late at night.
