"Nice Place to Live"
Grand Prairie, TX was voted one of the best cities in the country in 2008 by Money Magazine as Best Place to Live and received a Gold Medal from the National Recreation and Parks Association for Best Parks Systems in America. Like any city there are areas that aren't the best, but that is changing, and the city has been committed to revitalizing the area and making good use of the resources already available. The Grand Fun guide lists out all the activities in the city from large events such as the Labor Day weekend by the lake, or small group classes for preschoolers.
Hemlock Drive is located on the south side of Grand Prairie with close access to I-20. Its a little bit of a pain to turn left (south) out onto Carrier Pkwy due to no stoplight, but it is doable. I enjoy our little neighborhood because we have access to lots of different things - restaurants, schools nearby and shopping - and because we can enjoy both privacy and friendly interaction with neighbors when we'd like. I do wish that AT&T U-verse was available on our street, but Time Warner has what we need for the most part, so we're good as far as our communications are concerned. There are lots of dogs on our street, so this is perfect for people who love to meet new people with dogs.
The Kirby Creek Rec center has year-round access to the pool, and is just a few blocks away. But for those who want a Y, the one on South Carrier less than a few minutes away by car has tons of stuff to do for everyone in the family. The schools that are really close by are Jackson Middle School and South Grand Prairie High. Your child could walk to either in just a few minutes.
