"Ahwatukee: Quiet, Clean, Friendly, Healthy, Active Community"

A 15+ year resident, having lived all over the Valley of the Sun, nothing beats living in "The Tuke". Quick access to grocery stores, restaurants, fitness clubs, hardware, auto repair and plenty of outdoor activities. The community is close, friendly, but can be as private as you need. Home to many athletes, entertainers, and valley leaders, residents respect that this is their home too and let's them do exactly that. The streets come alive in the early morning as the "giant culd-de-sac" (a nickname by non-residents) provides bicyclist a long focused ride, both long flats and gradual hills. For those that prefer their feet over wheels, located next one of the nations largest municipal parks, South Mountain Preserve offers 40 miles of hiking trails and many neighborhoods are connected with paved walking paths. The schools rank as the highest in the state and well respected. Living anywhere else would be a compromise, but let's keep it our little secret. ;)

"I don't want to leave!"

I've been living in Ahwatukee for a good 3 years now and It's a nice area. I'm a single mother to one child and I feel very safe. I live in an apartment complex that are well kept, management is friendly and parking is plenty. Granted, when I first moved here there were some issues with break ins but management made sure to keep the residents up to date with a letter that included what and where. But that was my first year here. After that, it's been pretty calm. The school district is also top notch as far as public schooling goes and that's one of the reasons I don't want to leave. I feel like this area gives me a peace of mind. It's not perfect considering I do hear police/ambulance/fire sirens about once a week. I don't contribute them to any violent crimes but who knows. Noise levels in my area are minimal. My neighbors are quiet and I don't have any complaints. There are many stores to choose from within walking distance which is great come fall/winter time. Parks are really nice too. I don't see stray cats which is a plus considering where I've lived before. Dogs are kept on leashes and the owners do a good job of picking up after their pets. I like the diversity here as well. I'm black and I don't feel uncomfortable at all. I see all kinds of people out and about. My only gripe is the cost of living. At first my rent was convenient but of course it goes up yearly. I'm at a place where I need to save money and that's the only reason why I'm leaving.

"A lovely family area."

I really loved living in Ahwatukee, Arizona! It is a family friendly, clean neighborhood with many new homes and business. It is a really clean part of Phoenix and is considered to be one of the "better" neighborhoods.
Ahwatukee has a trendy kinda feel to it and many of the people living there are young families.
It has certainly grown in the past five years with tons of new stores and businesses. The shopping is fantastic! You really don't have to drive too far to find anything you could possibly want, from a gourmet wine shop to great chicken tacos, Ahwatukee has it all. The only downside is that it has become a bit congested and during peak times, traffic is really bad.
My neighbors were all very friendly. Some were a bit reserved but we all looked out for each other's homes, kids and pets. My house was near a busy street, so there was a bit of traffic noise but not enough to bother us.
All in all, Ahwatukee, AZ was on of my favorite places to live and I would move back there in a heartbeat!
