"Too Loud to Live On... but a lot of parking"

The part of Fulton that I live on runs right along side the park which would seem nice but the buildings are very close to this 4 lane thoroughfare and it's a straight-shot to the ocean from the downtown area of San Francisco which creates enough passers. Very rarely is there a lot traffic per say but a steady flow of cars go by and they are loud when you are so close to the street. The park across the street has a lot of large trees and somewhat natural rustic trails, so mostly in the shade. It is part of the Golden Gate Park. The park spans many miles and the portion that I live near is called the Speedway. The most frequent use for this section is for the sport "disk golf" or Frisbee but the disk is somewhat smaller. Also, there are joggers that use this part of the park as a larger span of distance in their exercise. But for the most part there is not a lot of activity in the Speedway across the street and because it is a bit dark and uneventful it can be a bit spooky and frankly dangerous to wander alone in. Not to mention the rape that was reported about 6 months ago and the occasional drunk or homeless person we have heard making themselves be known in the wee hours of the night. These are not regular occurrences but certainly not incentive to take a stroll whenever you feel like doing so. I take public transportation and have found at night I stay as far away from that side of the street as possible and when forced to be there I am likely to get scared and run back across the street as soon as possible. However, I should say I am spooked easily or have that tendency about the park and have only frequented it twice briefly (not alone) in the 1 and a half years I've lived here. The positive side to having the park across the street is there is only half as many houses on the street which means half as many parking cars and therefore more spots to park in when you need to and without circling the block to locate a newly emptied parking spot that will only allow 30 minutes... Here there is always plenty of parking on both sides of the street and only street cleaning limitations once a week. There are also no parking meters. It is free and clear which is a rarity here. It isn't like this the entire length of Fulton but for the most part, it is free and not a huge problem to park. . The short jaunt to the ocean would be nice but San Francisco is not known for it's beaches or sunny beach weather. Overall, the ocean area, referred to as the Sunset or Richmond districts are the coldest in San Francisco and have the most overcast and fog of anywhere in the city. The closer to the ocean, the more windy and misty it gets. If that is something you like, then this is a positive attribute. Luckily I live pretty far in (close to 20 blocks from the beach) and it does make a considerable difference. This area is void of any real night life and has only a few less popular shopping areas. These are far from Fulton Street. The closest corner store is 4 blocks away and grocery store 7 blocks. This makes having not vehicle a bit more inconvenient for most although not impossible. The transportation or Muni bus line is conveniently located on every other block and comes somewhat frequently (approximately every 15 minutes, slowing to one every half hour later in the evening but running 24 hours). The bus goes from the ocean all the way to the center of downtown, passing many transfer hubs and areas that are more popular to frequent for the things that the city is known to offer. It is pretty fast to get from here to there. In general people complain about Muni but it isn't so bad most of the time... Most of this part of the city is residential and consists of blocks and blocks of small to medium sized family homes. Not much of a singles scene here. There are a lot of schools and school age children as well as the occasional college student that attends SF State not far in the Sunset district but the population is fairly highly populated with Asian Americans. Their culture brings a flavor to the businesses that are here and the general feel of the neighborhoods. It is quite and less colorful as such an area as the Mission district of SF. With that may bring less traffic and possibly less crime. I don't know for sure about the actual statistics but it would seems so. This also means a bit less exciting for singles and younger people. I have said too much but this was mostly what I could say to the fullest and that is what I did. Wear a sweater and be alert. You can drive here or take the Muni Line 5. If you want to eat out it will likely be Asian food and plan on visiting someone at their residence, probably an apartment and feeling close to the park, enjoying the view of the greenery but not likely to stroll there. You will be annoyed trying to get across the street because of the fast driving cars steadily whizzing by. You may hear the laughter of children or dogs being walked by a conservatively dressed man or woman. Noone really looks too typical here except the safety of our Asian neighbors who are very good neighbors and never are invasive. You won't likely have to attend neighborhood watch meeting and may wonder who even lives next door because you never even see or hear them. And that's it. Thanks for getting this far in this run on.

jotoma pinkapple, what a fantastic review of Fulton, I really enjoyed reading it. If you ever get a chance would love to see a video, especially of the park and the "disk golf"!
