Lovely area, have considered living here when I get older.
It's not a "happening place" for singles or younger people (under 35). Displays a more quiet vibe and comprises of older people and families. It can be quite insulated - it's only little community. A little pretentious too.

The pretentiousness comes from cashed up yuppies who try to fit in, the more established families are absolutely lovely....The local member Tim Wilson fits into that category but locals ignore him...lol ...Friendly and very relaxing.

With Melbourne roughly 70km away, Safety Beach makes a beautiful location for both residents seeing a stunning home and visitors seeking to experience country Victoria. The face of Safety Beach has been altered slightly due to the construction of Martha Cove, a large inland harbour and residential development. Properties in the area average at about $355,000 and are suited predominantly to retirees and families. Safety Beach is also home to a couple of golf courses for those seeking local sporting opportunities.

The increasing gentrification and the now excellent Garden St/Ormond Rd shopping precinct too is adding greatly to the desireability of East Geelong as well, it's come a long way in the last 10-15 years.
