"The New Yonkers"
Neighborhoods around North Broadway are my favorite part of Yonkers. First of all, there's the Larkin Center Library. It's right by the train station, and it's a superb place to study, especially if you're on the top floor. Second, it's right by the most naturey nature you will find in all of Yonkers, namely the Lenoir Preserve. It's great for bird-watching (I've seen quite a few hawks there), and in the summer there's a butterfly garden! Oh, and there is an amazing Italian restaurant called Zuppa on Main Street. This area is an essential part of the Yonkers experience.

"Pretty Neighborhood for Car Commuters"
My grandmother lived on a cul-de-sac off of here up until recently. The surrounding area is rather cute and there are many historical 2-or-3-story houses. It's quiet, but there is the occasional loud dog in the neighborhood. Friendly neighbors, too; my grandma still talks to some of them, and she is in Florida! Anyway, it's right off the Saw Mill, so it's pretty convenient if you are traveling by car, but there is not much at all in the way of local shopping. I've heard there is an awesome preschool nearby as well, though I don't recall its name.

"Rather Cute, for a Suburb"
This is a nice, middle-class neighborhood in Yonkers. It's mostly medium-sized houses, and it's right near an elementary school if you have young kids. It's also really close to a stop on the Hudson line if you need to take the train to "upper Westchester" or the city. I always found it really quiet and safe if you just want to go for a walk in the afternoon.

"Going to Manhattan from Yonkers"
Okay, if you are driving to Manhattan, first of all, you don't have to; take Metro North. But if you ACTUALLY HAVE TO, take the Saw Mill and not the NYS Throughway > Major Deegan. The Saw Mill goes right to the Henry Hudson Parkway, and it's not constantly clogged with traffic. Got it? Good.

"Vertically Integrated Suburbs"
I lived in an apartment building on Midland Avenue (1133 Midland, if you mus know), and found it a really pleasant place to grow up. For an apartment neighborhood, it's really quiet and child-friendly. The people are nice as well as diverse. It's close to local shopping like Cross County, and there are good local schools primary schools.
