"Historic neighborhood- close to everything."

Clinton is a small, diverse, residential neighborhood, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the city. It is dominated by 1880's to 1910's Victorian, Craftsman and Foursquare architecture, but with a significant number of apartment buildings being of post WW2 construction. Streets are generally wide, straight, tree-lined in a grid pattern. Like most of Oakland, the pavement is genrally in a state of disrepair. There is a wide variety of feel from one block to another, with some blocks being very uniform and manicured, while others are either a hodgepodge of decades or suffering from deferred maintenance.
The Ethnic makeup is predominantly East and Southeast Asian, followed by Hispanic, Black and White. This diversity does not appear to enflame tensions at all. The neighborhood is mostly peaceful, despite spill-over from surrounding areas. Crime has been trending downward and consists mostly of petty theft, auto burglaries and vandalism.
Restaurants and shopping are not abundant in Clinton, although neighboring Merritt and Eastlake have abundant markets and restaurants within walking distance.
There has been much eal estate turnover in recent years and home values are certainly on an upward trend, while currently being comparatively affordable. Many of these Victorians are in the process of restoration.
