Looking for info on Tarrytown areas...moving from Chicago soon!

My family and I are planning to relocate to Westchester County in a few months, namely, Tarrytown. We will be renting at first to get the lay of the land. My husband will be commuting to NYC everyday. Can someone help give me a general idea of the different areas as we know nothing about the area. Would like to be walking distance to the train. We have one son who is 3. We are coming from Chicago and live right in the middle of all the action, so would be great to find an area in which we could walk to town. Thank you in advance for your help!! Also, I want to avoid paying a broker fee. Any advice?
