"Byers is a small town commutable to Denver"

Byers is a small town of just over a thousand people out east of Denver along I-70. The average household income is about average for Colorado and higher than most other eastern plain communities of Colorado. The average is about $45,000 a year. The town primarily lies on the southern side of the interstate.

Byers is close enough to Denver to commute, it is about 40 miles from downtown abd about a half hour to Aurora and the Denver airport (DIA). The town is surrounded by big agricultural fields and ranches. There are a couple restaurants and the trucking industry and industrial/construction business near the interstate.
Pros
  • peaceful and quiet
  • small town friendly feel
Cons
  • limited shopping options

"A sleepy little town 40 miles east of Denver"

Byers is a small little town east of Denver off of I-70. There isn't too much here in the way of businesses; there's a small independent grocery store, a tire shop, a restaurant, and the local branch of the DMV. There is also May Farms, which is a family owned farm with a large conference center, a small pond, a barnyard with animals to pet, small country store, farmers market, and they also host a weekly brunch. During harvest time the farm has thousands of pumpkins for sale, a hay ride, barrel train ride, hay maze, and some years a corn maze (crops permitting). They offer field trips and also host weddings.

The schools in Byers are small in number and maintain a good tight-knit group of kids for the most part. They are very much a little sports town and show great pride in their high school team sports. The schools rank slightly above average on state testing standards.

Many of the townsfolk are very nice and friendly. They are quick to help with directions or give a history on Byers. The median home price in this small town is $170,000 with a median income of $58,900. Some of these numbers can be easily skewed by the sale or purchase of homes with a lot of acreage. Since the town's population is just over 1,150 the sale of a home or ranch can greatly affect the numbers.

Although CDOT does a good job with all of the roads in Colorado, Byers is relatively flat and when the wind blows during a snow storm, this part of I-70 can get nasty fast. The wind blowing creates ice on the highway and the conditions can be very slick. It isn't unusual for travelers to be stranded in this part of the state, but for those who may want to take a break or find lodging due to road closures, there is a small motel just off the main road north of the highway.

I would recommend this town for anyone who wants to leave city life behind and enjoy friendly neighbors in a small town environment.
Pros
  • small town friendly feel
  • peaceful and quiet
Cons
  • bad roads in winter
  • limited shopping options
