"Charm of the Northeast"

A charming neighborhood, Rhawnhurst is located in the Northeast section of Philadelphia; named after George and William Rhawn who owned property in the area. The neighborhood is surrounded by Pennypack Creek to the north, Roosevelt Boulevard to the east, Cottman Avenue to the south and Algon Avenue to the west. The zip code for this area is 19152 and parts of 19111.

Predominantly residential, Rhawnhurst offers mostly rowhomes and other attached dwellings. There are townhouses and small apartments in the vicinity too. The real estate median for Rhawnhurst is around 208,000. Many of the neighbors have a Romanian or Russian ancestry, coming from generations that have spent years in this cozy neighborhood.

Traffic can be heavy during rush hours in Rhawnhurst, but not by much. During regular hours there isn't much car congestion. Major roadways in Rhawnhurst include Roosevelt Boulevard (U.S. 1), Bustleton Avenue (PA 532), Cottman Avenue (PA 73), Rhawn Street, Large Street and Castor Avenue. If you use public transportation, SEPTA has several bus lines that serve the area and connect to the Market-Frankford Line, Broad Street Subway and regional rails.

The School District of Philadelphia operates four schools in the vicinity. This may or may not remain true in the coming months due to the district closing down many of the public schools. There are two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school in the area. Also, the Archdiocese runs a K-8 in the neighborhood as well.

There are many parks and playgrounds in the neighborhood as well. Rhawnhusrt includes portions of Pennypack Park. Bradford Park in Rhawnhurst is mostly used as a dog park for K-9's of all sizes and breeds.

Rhawnhurst is also home to three shopping centers; Roosevelt Mall, Cottman and Bustleton Center and Bell's Corner Shopping Center. You can find many of the larger chains such as Target, Macy's and Sears in these shopping centers. Barbera's Autoland, in Rhawnhurst, is a dealership as well as one of the top auto repair shops in Philadelphia. There is also a cool comic book and sports card shop called Garden of Earthly Delights on Bustleton Avenue.

There isn't much of a nightlife in this neighborhood with only a few bars. However, there are many restaurants if you like to eat out. They range from kosher spots to Chinese cuisine, Italian Delicatessens to Hibachi Buffets. You can find a taste that you'll like is this neighborhood.

Rhawnhurst is a unique neighborhood in many important ways. Mostly, Rhawnhurst is a place where anyone would want to raise a family or live out the rest of their days. It's definitely worth visiting and very much worth living in.

"Residential Near The Park"

I used to be a dog walker throughout Philadelphia and had two doggy clients in Rhawnhurst. The neighborhood basically consists of pockets of housing and access to Pennypack Park. The twin homes in this area all look pretty much the same with little variation. Most all have a small front and back yard, front porch area and one car garage. Because of this, however, I think that there is a fairly strong neighborhood bond, as most houses are very close together and you'll get to know your neighbors well!

Rhawnhurst is just north of Cottman Ave and provides fairly easy access to 76. While there are no shopping or dining options in Rhawnhurst itself, nearby Jenkintown has many options.

I think that the main draw of this area is Pennypack Park, which provides miles of walking and biking trails. When the weather is nice (and even sometimes when its not!) joggers, bikers and people walking their dogs along the parks trails is a nice sight. I would recommend Rhawnhurst for families with pets or kids.

"Lots of families"

Rhawnhurst is a neighborhood located in the Northeast section of Philadelphia. It is bound by Pennypack Creek to the north, Cottman Avenue to the south, Roosevelt Boulevard to the east and Pennyway Street to the west.
Named after George and William Rhawn who were local real estate developers, Rhawnhurst is a largely residential neighborhood. This makes it made up of mostly houses and offers very little shopping opportunities. The main retail hubs of the neighborhood are Bell’s Corner Shopping Center, the Roosevelt Mall and Cottman Bustleton Center.
Rhawnhurst is a quiet neighborhood consisting of mostly families. The residents come from many different spiritual backgrounds, so you’re going to find that the area is home to a lot of different churches including The Church of Resurrection of Our Lord and Philadelphia First Church of the Nazarene.
The major draw of Rhawnhurst is Pennypack Park. This park offers a lot of recreational activities including jogging, biking and hiking. Bradford Park, located near the Roosevelt Mall, is the perfect place to take your dog for a stroll or a romp in their dog park.
There are several SEPTA lines in Rhawnhurst and provide direct connections to the Market-Frankford Line as well as the El.

"This neighborhood seems incomplete."

There isn’t much going on in Rhawnhurst, the neighborhood located in the Northeast section of Philadelphia. Most of the homes here were built in 1960s so they are ranch style or duplexes. This was to support the housing demand that occurred during the baby boom that followed World War II.

If you’re looking to shop then Rhawnhurst is not the place for you. There is next to nothing here in the way of shopping. There are a few shopping centers like Bell’s Corner but you’re better off traveling elsewhere. And if you’re traveling a car would probably be a good idea as public transportation isn’t all that great either. There are buses that will get you to the El but that’s going to take forever.

For the most part Rhawnhurst feels like a neighborhood that was left unfinished. It was started during a time where the interest in housing development was high and then it was left alone. It does have a variety of churches catering to most religions. And is relatively close to Pennypack Park, which is a great urban park that attracts a lot of visitors. The popular dog park, Bradford Park is also nearby so there is at least somewhere to go with your canine companion.
