First home! Own other investment props, but this is our first home!! When I was a child, this neighborhood was called Marquette Park. As African Americans, we were not allowed west of 63rd and Ashland! Now we (husband & I) own a historical brick bungalow on Maplewood Street!

It's a dollhouse! Totally rehabbed by the Greater Southwest Development Corporation--entire house, PLUS the 3 car brick garage. Our home is a lovely 3 room Mission style that sits on the corner of 60th and Maplewood. The roof is arched as if it's about to pounce on any ruffians that "pass thru" our community. That's important and interesting. The troublemakers never stick around.

Our block consists of several BEAUTIFUL brick bungalows and brick two flats.
Positive--Buildings are historical. Negative--no one knows or cares.

On lazy winter afternoons, I put the kettle on--walk into the living room and peer through the octogonal bay windows to watch the snow float from the heavens and coddle our street like a babies blanket. It's a Currier & Ives post card.

Spring brings so much green on our block you'd think you were at the Botanic Gardens. These homes & gardens are originals...so most plantings occured during the turn of the century 'til the '40's. The old snowball shrubs are huge trees now. Our block is air conditioned by the shade trees! It's spectacular!

Summer brings out the Daylillies, Hollyhocks, and Hostems. Not that small Home Depot crap, but the 50 year old Lillies. (First year sleep, 2nd year creep, 50 year LEAP). Every summer day is sunny and festive on our block. And the food. So many different ethnicities!!

Autumn brings the threat that school is on the horizon. Out of my office window I spy the Sugar Maples lined up along the parkway of Morrill School.They are preparing for their annual dance. First yellow, then orange, and so red you'd think there was a fire! It's visually fasinating!

My recommendations are for Couples and singles. You get so much for your money...architecturally and spacewise. Retirees too much yardwork and snowblowing. Fams, NO! Take children to a safer community.
