"Neighbors with police records for criminal trespass and battery"

It's really cheap to buy a house In Sauganash but it's not worth it. Too many jealous nut jobs in little tiny houses.

I lived in Sauganash for ten years paid off my mortgage worked hard planning to add onto the back of my home. I'm an architect. When I reached my goal the two guys across the street were furious, told me I was single they wouldn't allow me to add onto my home. I didn't need a master bedroom and bath like I design for clients. They destroyed my vintage 1966 car with two dozen eggs and harassed me for weeks, telling me other neighbors were angry and having "meetings" with them. Voicemails, emails. When I told them it was none of their business they wouldn't see an addition on the back of my house from accross the street they broke my front door forcing their way into my home screaming it was their business and who the Hell was I telling them it wasn't, while I held my two terrified dogs on the floor on my knees to keep them from running out the open door

I moved, sold to a Chicago Cop who wanted a house in the neighborhood to add a second floor on top of and resell. It's the worst fake brick and stucco Frankenhouse in Sauganash now. That part was fun. I wish I could attach a picture it looks like a bad dog humping a house.

Same couple used my lawnmower every week for the two years they were neighbors. Egged my car, broke my front door, bullied me out of my home then fought with me over my lawnmower. Every week my house was for sale and the month I waited for it to close taking it from my garage when I was at work returning it after I would come home telling me I had to give it to them when I moved.

August of 2013 they showed up at my new home in Andersonville, stuck a foot in the door when I answered both of them throwing their weight against it until it came off the hinges then hit me in the face with a rolled up magazine screaming about the ugly towering second floor addition the Cop built across from their house. I reported the second incident Chicago Police Report #HW428436 for Criminal Trespass and Battery

"Suburbs in the City"

We are pest free because have mosquito abatement, provided by the Sauganash Community Association. Excellent public transportation provided by Metra (two lines) and the Chicago Transportation Authority (two bus routes connecting to two different "L" lines). We're one of the safest neighborhoods in Chicago. We have Sauganash Park, which just got a brand new playground. We have access the two high speed broadband providers, AT&T and Comcast. We're very into recycling and the environment. We have the LaBagh Woods and Sauganash Trail, among local gardens. Our schools are outstanding with Sauganash School and Queen of All Saints. For childcare, we also have a Montessori school.

If you're in the right place at the right time, you can see raccoons, deer, coyote, flying squirrels, at least three different types of hawks and tons of different types of birds. It really is the suburbs in the city.

A good resource for mre information about Sauganash is the Sauganash Community Association. You can email them at [email protected], visit their web site at http://www.sauganash.org or call them at 773-777-3393.

"See how the "other half" lives"

One of the more entertaining parts about a trip to Chicago is finding out of the way spots that others may miss. Sauganash is a good example of an area that many people might overlook. It is definitely a bit of a trek from the more intense sightseeing areas, such as downtown, but a visit to the area will give you a feel for a different side of Chicago. It is particularly interesting that while Sauganash might only be a few miles from downtown Chicago and areas such as Wicker Park, you will likely feel as though you are in a different city altogether when you visit the much quieter Sauganash. So if you are looking to see just how different other areas of Chicago can be, visit this Northwest Side community.

Sauganash is part of the Forest Glen area on the Northwest Side of Chicago. This area was named after "Sauganash" who was a local Native American leader of the day. Today, Sauganash is one of three major communities within the Forest Glen area which has a population around 18,000. This area is largely known as a residential neighborhood that is largely white, affluent with a growing Asian and Hispanic populations.

"Suburban Feeling in the City"

Sauganash, which is a part of the Forest Glen neighborhood, is found on the far West Side of Chicago. Noted for its forest preserves, community feeling, and distinctly non-urban vibe, Sauganash is quite an escape from the big city. The neighborhood is well suited for families and is overall a rather affluent area. Definitely not ideal for singles, young professionals, students, or hipsters, I can appreciate the beauty of the area but it’s not a place I’d like to call home.

Its many block parties, its family-focus, and its general safety support the community energy of Sauganash. Because it is more of a “settling down” kind of place, most people go there and stay for many years, so there isn’t a lot of turnover with homes. For commuters, easy access to I-90, Metra commuter trains, and CTA buses make it the perfect quiet retreat from a hectic life.

Overall, I’d give Sauganash a fairly high rating for those in search of a place to raise a family, retire, or enjoy a quiet suburban life without actually leaving the city. It’s not for me, but its beauty makes it worth a visit once in a while. Not the place to go when you’re looking for excitement, but a nice contrast from the rest of Chicago.

"Good for living, so-so for visiting"

Sauganash is a nice residential neighborhood. The homes are generally on the expensive side, but nice, and it seems like a nice place to raise a family. I wouldn't say there's a whole lot to do there, but you can find some good, mid level dining experiences. I wouldn't say there's anything great as far as upscale dining, but you can certainly do worse.
There are a few malls in the area for shopping, but nothing famous like a tourist would look for. Mostly just the types of malls that are solid for someone living in the area. Old Orchard is only a few miles away, and you can find most of what you need. It isn't like some of the areas downtown where people come to have a shopping holiday, but for most people it'll satisfy.
The overall atmosphere is really nice, which is part of why I think the home prices tend to be expensive. There's a lot of green in the area, lots of trees, grass, etc. This makes it fairly unique in Chicago. Without question, the number one reason to move to Sauganash is for the greenery.
I can't say that Sauganash is my favorite part of the city, but that's mainly because it doesn't hold a lot of attraction for a visit. Living there would be nice though, and I could definitely see raising a family there, provided I can afford it.
Pros
  • Great parks
  • Decent restaurants
  • Quiet
  • Safe
Cons
  • Farther from city than I'd like
  • Not a lot of attractions/things to do
  • A bit expensive
