"Fox Meadow Medina, Second Opinion"

Previous reviewer, I think you meant to say with as opposed to without in reference to the HOA. We really like living on Fox Meadow Drive. Homes here are 1/2 the cost of similar Golf Course Community homes in other parts of the country. The neighborhood is clean and safe, and we have a great pool and golf course in the neighborhood. We can drive around on our own golf cart, and in the warm months it feels like living in a resort. I think it is very important to read the Covenants when you are looking at gated or golf course community. The things some see as overly restricted are welcomed by many others. It only took me 10 minutes to read and understand the Fox Meadow Covenants before we purchased our home. Swingsets must be wood, and landscaping plans need to be submitted to the DRC for approval. My professionally prepared landscape plans were approved quite quickly. Trampolines are not allowed, which is a relief as I don't have to worry about my kids becoming another emergency room statistic. If you don't play golf or struggle to afford the cost of a home in Fox, it could be a frustrating place to live, otherwise, it is a big upgrade if you are looking for sidewalks and community in Medina. If you prefer to be able to do whatever you wish with your property, than a country lot without much zoning is probably a better choice.

rango Thank you Mr. Know-It-All for telling us what someone else meant to say. Now, for what you really meant to say:

Be advised that if you do not want to join the golf club then do not move into our community, otherwise we will make every effort to make your experience in our community miserable...

Our golf club, like so many others across the country is failing and is currently up for sale once again (the third time in 6 years), so we are in freefall and are going to try any means possible to get more members to share in holding this bag of crap that we created…

Many of our members are PO as the original initiation fees to join the club were $20K; they are now $2K, with crap for food service, and reduced amenities.
Accordingly, we need to beat up on the resident non-members to help bail us out...

The failing golf club is part of the reason that the housing market in Fox Meadow is in total collapse. There are currently over 50 homes for sale in our community. It also does not help they the same greedy builders that built our homes are building less expensive new homes right around us. There are also many other newer places, like Blue Herron, to live in Medina without living under the eyes of the roaming vigilant HOA. So, be advised of such before moving into this fiscal trap of a community…

We want our community children to enjoy Fox Meadow therefore we are open-minded about allowing them to ride golf carts down the middle of our streets without any problem, after all that is why we have such great sidewalks. God forbid they get hurt on trampolines and we have to take them to the ER, its much better if they kill themselves doing a header out of the cart they were hanging on the back of, or better yet perhaps they will just hit a car or some old folk pedestrian on the sidewalk. So, when a major cart accident happens, and it will as its only a matter of time, the HOA better get prepared to be sued for negligence…

The HOA determines the type of flowers that you plant so that when golfers hit their balls into your yard they can trammel down a consistent variety of plants free of poison ivy. And as any good American community we encourage free speech including the colorful use of language that our hackers use in front of your kids when they are looking for their misplaced shot in your backyard….

Please be advised that The HOA will send out friendly reminders, notices and bulletins to you about what you must do as a homeowner, like fix your gas light and get your landscape approved, but take comfort in the fact that the HOA will never chastise any of club member or their children for riding carts on your lawn or failing to exhibit the simplest of good manors regarding your property…

And hear is a final tip, use only professional landscapers on your property which Mr. Know-It-All has found gets his plans promptly approved by the Design Committee because he apparently is rich and can afford a pro. You poor folk that like to get your hands dirty planting your cheep Kmart foliage should buckle up and hire an expert or perhaps Michelangelo to draw up your plans. Otherwise move the hell out of our resort!

But we have to give Mr. Know-It-All credit for he is right in saying that I like so many others agreed to the rules when we moved into the community. I agree that even the rules that I don’t like are perhaps a good thing for the general welfare of the entire community. I can accept that with no problem or complaint. However, one of the rules is that you are not required to join the club to live in Fox Meadow. So why are nonmembers of the club treated differently? I did not see a preferential treatment clause in the rules when I moved into the community. The real problem with Fox Meadow is the complete arrogance of the few that believe that Fox Meadow is their personal resort. I realize that the elite of Fox Meadow are upset because they want a community to be the perfect situation for them and now because in their opinion they have admitted us lowlifes it is now failing. Speaking on behalf of us lowlifes, that is not our fault. The question is not why did we did we move into Fox Meadow; the question is why the hell did you let us in pretending that club membership did not matter?

Now the HOA great plan is to mandate membership, escalating the blind arrogance to a level of “just plan nuts”. I suggest that you and your group pack up and take a hit on your property and move to a real gated community when they only let in the type of people that you approve of and leave us normal people alone. By the way as opposed to what you indicated Fox Meadow is not a gated community. You have to actually have gates in place to be a gated community Mr. Know-It-All. I know in your head that Fox Meadow is your private resort for the privileged, but your in the wrong pew bud as this is not your personal heaven with a fence around to keep out us sinners, the place it is an open community for all to enjoy as they see fit, trampolines, swing sets, ugly flowers, Chevy’s, and all.

step21
step21 Rango,

The streets in Fox Meadow are public roads and controlled by the township, I agree that kids should not be on carts, but the streets are under the control of the township. If you see kids on the road, call the police. Phase One is the only phase where club membership is optional, all other phases require a social membership per the covenants. The previous club owner chose not to enforce this, however it was always there... You are correct, Fox Meadow is not a gated community. In my comments I recommended that a potential buyer look at the covenants before buying in a golf course or gated community. This would apply to others besides Fox Meadow. I am sorry that you view yourself and your surroundings in such a negative way, and I hope things get better for you in the future.

Observer
Observer We moved into Fox Meadows several years ago. The "mandatory" membership was not listed in our papers. We did join for a couple years but the food was so bad in the restaurant and the resultant total price of the 8 rounds of golf allowed (social members must pay the greens fees) began to rival Pebble Beach. It's interesting that they are apparently up for sale again. That must be why after we didn't sign up the third year, they have been sending bill after bill to us, even though legally there is nothing in the covenants, or our contract about mandatory membership (there is if you buy now, as the builder realized its mistake and reworked their documents). We love the area, the golf course is really nice, and the HOA requirements seem reasonable enough. It would be nice if the golf course went public like Blue Heron but that would possibly hurt the property values even more.

"FINALLY! We escaped!!"

If you like to live your life without a homeowners association who monitors what flowers you plant in your yard, attempts to ban childrens swingsets, sues neighbors who dont comply with their War and Peace sized book of restrictions and, for the final trick, bans for sale signs when people start to flee in droves, Fox Meadow is the place for you.

My advice? TURN AND RUN!

advisor2008 We're so happy for you!!! I don't care for most homeowners associations either. I suspect many cities have a "Fox Meadow" situation.
Best wishes on your new location…
