Is the crime rate in downtown Colorado Springs a problem?

I looked up the crime rate in Colorado Springs, and it is pretty high, although I couldn't find data on certain areas or subdivisions in particular. I've been in downtown Colorado Springs many times but never felt unsafe.

HeatherS I have heard there is significant amount of crime/gangs but feel good there too when I have walked around.
