Where to live in Chicago? 21 year old female new to the city.

Hi I am a young female, actually just turned 21 last week. I am looking to move to Chicago around May. At first I was looking around Rogers Park as I assumed it would be the cheapest. Though after looking around a lot over the past month I have learned if you look enough you can find a steal in most areas. So far on my list of places I would live are Edgewater, Bucktown, Logan Square, Uptown, and Rogers Park. I'm not really all too sure on where I want to be though. I am single and have no children. My monthly income would be about 1600. I own a car but could leave it with my grandparents if it turned out to be that unnecessary. I don't mind a long commute as long as it is safe to get onto the transportation. My job would take me around Chicago though I would mostly be around River North if that makes any difference. It would be nice to have easy access to some nightlife though I could always take the train. Any advice? Thanks!

I know it may sound like I'm tooting my own company's horn, but try this: http://www.bairdwarner.com/our_neighborhoods/ There are some great descriptions of many of the neighborhoods around the city. There are places to avoid, obviously, because of the crime rates, or pricey rate per square foot and such. But you can generally narrow down your options by starting there.

Stephanie,

Your in the same boat as many who are relocating and not familiar with the neighborhoods. Try going to www.homeologychicago.com, to get help finding that ideal neighborhood. You need to provide input on your criteria, from there you will get help in finding that ideal neighborhood that meets your needs.

Good Luck.

Uptown, Edgewater, and Rogers Park all have access to the lake, and to the frequent CTA Red Line and the frequent CTA #22 Clark Bus, both of which go downtown, via River North.

You are ON POINT! There are bargains throughout the city, and each area has it's charm. Are you looking for a nightlife ? Check out Ukrainian Village or Wrigleyville. Edgewater has great local shops and has terrific transportation options. It's also close to the lake. Another affordable option is the Near West side - Fulton Market/Grand Ave is a hot area that hasn't reached its peak.
