How safe is Carlsbad?

My family and I live in south Carlsbad (La Costa) and feel very comfortable with our safety. The Carlsbad Police Department is responsive and streets appear to be patrolled fairly regularly. Depending upon the neighborhood, you will also find neighbors who are alert to any strange activity.
