Is Beacon a good place for a summer home?

To be honest, I'd tend to think no. There are a few things to do in Beacon and there is scenery with the Hudson River cutting through, but it's not the kind of city where I'd think of someone getting a second home. Beacon doesn't have the quiet appeal of the mountains nor does it have a nearby beach, which are typically the sorts of places one might find summer houses. I suppose what I'm saying is that while I have no issues with Beacon, it's just sort of an average town and doesn't have much of a draw for the summer home crowd. Beacon is more of a place where you'd get a primary residence.

It all depends on what you're looking for, though.
