Elon College in reality has been renamed the Town of Elon,or just plain Elon. Elon is home Elon University which used to be just Elon College. Elon University has a few eateries on williams and lebanon, as well as West End Station "sports bar" on Lebanon, and Sandy's Stakes and Subs on Haggard, which both serve alcohol. There's not a big night life in the town except for the two bars, and perhaps dorm, fraternity sorority house, campus, and private house parties. It's relatively quiet on campus and the surrounding area, for a college town. The recently built Colonnades Dining hall has some high end to health conscious eateries also, including 1889 Grill, a gourmet restaurant, Croutons Salad Bar with grilled meat or tofu choices, in addition to the Fountain Market which is supplied with healthy and whole food groceries from the Whole Foods market chain. The population of Elon is mostly the several thousand female students at the campus, the campus itself being coed, but the female to male ration is high. Campus safety and combination with the Town of Elon police department do a very good job of preserving campus and town safety, especially females walking home at night. If students want to escape the campus, they can take the shuttles to the newly constructed Alamance Crossing shopping center which has Barnes and Noble, movie theater, department stars, Best Buy, and other student-centric stores. Practically the entire Elon campus and dorms is wireless with a public wifi available to everyone with a wireless computer, for internet access, so if you need to stop some where to surf online and get coffee for a few hours, Elon is the place.
