Monroe is located about 45 miles from Georgia's capitol city of Atlanta.

It is a small town where people keep to themselves. Some of its residents are fast paced and rude, while others are polite and courteous. There are several places to eat including: Applebee's, Longhorn's, and a very delicious Mexican restaurant, Los 3 Amigos. Most of Monroe's small local eateries lack flavor and are extremely over priced for the portions the give. For the most value I would definitely stick to the industrialized eateries.

There is little to do in this small town. There are no malls, movie theaters, or skating rinks. There are, however, several poorly maintained parks, mostly made up of sports fields, rather than trails, flowers, and playgrounds. The privately owned shops Monroe offers about as much as its restaurants’; expensive, outdated, and small nic nacs and junk. Most of the town’s residents are forced to take their entertainment and retail needs to other surrounding towns.

Don’t let this lack of interests fool you. Monroe is the capital city for Walton County, and though Monroe’s minds may be small in intelligence, numbers it is not. Monroe’s population is an estimated 11407, and Walton County is an estimated 83144.

The night life is a low rent, low class bar presently called Shakerz. Well that’s what it is called this week anyhow.

Some have City water through Monroe Utilities, others living in the county have well water.
Cost of living is scattered throughout the city. Home prices can be in the $300’s and literally be across the street from a trailer park community.

Jobs are few and far between in this city. Most of its residents must commute at least 30 minutes to work every morning and evening to have a job. A vast population of the cities residents makes their careers breaking the law and living in jail and on probation. The unemployment and poverty rate is terrible.

The local hospital offers very poor medical care and most of the people seeking even immediate medical attention drive the 30 minutes to the neighboring town of Athens, or ask to be transferred immediately after arriving at the local hospital.

The Counties schools were recently reprimanded by the Georgia Department of Education for its low test scores.

If I had my choice of places to live it would most certainly not be this little one horse town!
